All My Children alum Cameron Mathison has revealed he is battling renal cancer.

The actor shared his health news Monday morning on his Hallmark show, Home & Family. Mathison then followed up with fans via social media on Tuesday, after letting the story set in for a day. He not only got candid about his current battle but revealed what led him to the fight of his life.

“About a month ago, I had an MRI for some gut issues I’ve been having, and during that MRI, they found a tumor on my right kidney. It’s consistent with Renal Cell Carcinoma or kidney cancer,” the 50-year-old shared in a message across all of his social media platforms.

Mathison included a photo of him with his wife Vanessa and their two children son Lucas, age 16 and daughter Leila age 13. The Hallmark channel staple credited his family, including his parents and brother, for helping him during this trying time.

“The good news is that it hasn’t spread to any other organs. They say my healthy lifestyle and diet has no doubt helped keep it from growing and spreading to other areas, as doctors think it’s been growing in me for minimum 10 years. I am extremely lucky that we found it early. Thank you to my longtime friend and urologist @jon_giddens who has helped me tremendously through this process,” he revealed.

Along with being a soap opera star and familiar face in Hallmark Channel movies, Mathison is also a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight. He thanked all of his colleagues past and present for their undying support, as he prepares for surgery and to deal with his current health crisis. The actor ended his note with a request for all of his followers.

“My surgery is scheduled on September 12th. I was hoping to receive positive thoughts, prayers, or whatever you feel comfortable with, on 9/12 my surgery is at 1 pm PST,”  he said before letting fans know despite the circumstances the TV personality is feeling positive and optimistic.
