A cashed-up bank exec and his media training wife have pounced on a Moroccan-inspired dream home in one of the east’s most coveted spots.

The stunning four-bedroom home in Darling St, Bronte sold prior to auction within two weeks of its listing via PPD principal Alexander Phillips and David Tyrrell for $9.2m.

The guide had been $8.5m, but there were several buyers fighting over it, won over by the fact it was the own home of architect Sarah Foletta of Foletta Architects and her husband, Hamish Foletta, founder and investment adviser at Sarto Advisory.

Today’s settlement on the May exchange reveals the purchaser is UBS investment banker Andrew Buchanan and his executive media trainer wife, Heidi Buchanan, who recently sold on the north shore.

Buchanan had joined the Swiss bank as an executive director in May, 2021, from Goldman Sachs, and was among several to be promoted to managing director early last year.

“Buchanan’s elevation in particular was quick,” one report noted.

The Darling St home takes full advantage of its perfect north to rear aspect and the two-storey layout is wrapped in a series of outdoor living spaces and there’s a pool.

The couple had bought the former home on the 374sqm block in 2012 for $2.8m and rebuilt.

Meanwhile, the PPD duo have had another big sale in Gardyne St, Bronte.

The sold sticker has gone up on the five-bedroom home of Jack and Nicki Kalaf, who lived there with children Archie, Joe and Maggie.

The couple had listed back in April with hopes of about $12m.

There’d been a burst of initial interest from buyers trying to get FIRB permission and locals who had their current homes to sell, but no deal before last week.

It’s understood a local couple paid in the $12.5m-$13m range.

That, too, was an architectural gem completed in 2021, designed by Smyth & Smyth and Maryanne Taskovski Architects and with beach views.

They’d bought the original home for $5.05m in 2016.
